The eastern Caprivi Region is famous for its abundance of water, birds and game. Pitching your tent under Mopane trees, close to a pan filled with water – that is what the camping site of the Salambala Conservancy is all about.
Savour the tranquillity of the African bush in the scenic woodlands of Eastern Caprivi and watch the wildlife frequenting a natural pan permanently filled with water. Without being detected yourself you can watch from a hide as various species of antelope and possibly Elephant or even Lion approach the water. Birdwatching opportunities are excellent, too, with hundreds of the feathered friends near the water and in the thicket of the woodland. Activities include walks or day drives through Munitenge Royal Forest. Salambala offers four secluded, individual campsites (three to four tents each) shaded by large trees; one site is suited for bigger groups (five to six tents). The sites are equipped with running water, braai area, a lapa kitchen with sink and an ablution block with shower and toilet. Prices Camping - N$ 35.00 per person per night Location At the Salambala Pan, about 50 km south of Katima Mulilo, close to the D 350 road to Ngoma on the border to Botswana. How to get there From Katima Mulilo head south towards Ngoma for about 50 km. A signpost on the left indicates the turn-off to Salambala on the right. There is a small cuca shop at the junction. The last 5 km of the way lead through Mopane woods. Even though the track is sandy in patches it is suitable for ordinary vehicles. During the rainy season (October to May) it turns muddy and may at times only be accessible by four-wheel drive.
