Northwest (Kunene): Purros Campsite


When you have made it to the small settlement of Purros you find yourself right in the middle of Kaokoveld with its vast plains, harsh mountains and dry river courses. Despite the remoteness you will discover a camping site equipped with everything that a camper's heart desires.

Purros campsite is a great place to experience Namibia's scenic beauty and diverse wildlife totally untamed. This will be the part of your journey that you will never forget.

The vastness of the Kunene Region offers great opportunities to view game in a natural setting far away from national parks. The dry riverbed of the Hoarusib is frequented by Elephant, Giraffe, Rhino, Kudu, Zebra, Ostrich and other species.

The campsite's facilities consist of four secluded campsites (3 to 4 tents each) with braai area, tap, showers and flush toilets. Two additional sites for bigger groups are both equipped with two toilets and two showers each. The large shady trees look invitingly cool and serene even in the midday heat. There is also a bar with well-chilled drinks, and local guides will gladly offer their services to you.

Please note that elephant roam the area frequently. Although they are very peaceful there are certain rules you should adhere to. Your guide will give you all the details!

How to get there
The D 3707 from Sesfontein can only be negotiated by 4x4-vehicles. The campsite is situated 2 km northeast of Purros village on a single track. Look out for the signposts. Drive carefully as the track has patches of very deep sand.
