
Mudumu and Mamili National Parks in eastern Caprivi are seen as a well-kept secret among those with a spirit of adventure. Kubunyana Camp site east of the Kwando is not only an ideal base for exploring these parks, characterised by an abundance of water and game, but it is also a very charming place in its own right.
Kubunyana, which means 'small hippopotamus', is an attractive little haven on the banks of a quiet tributary of the Kwando River. This campsite is an excellent base for exploring Mudumu National Park, which is within easy reach for day trips, and for savouring the tranquillity of the African bush. The abundance of birds at the river will turn you into an avid bird watcher in no time. Guided walks along the river banks are available on request. Kubunyana offers three large permanent tents and four individual sites for camping. The tents, set up under thatched shade structures, contain beds with mattresses and small pieces of furniture. Bedding is not provided. There are large open kitchen facilities under a lapa (thatched roof) as well as an ablution block withhot showers and toilets. At the opposite end the four individual sites for camping are also situated in the shade. There is a braai area and another ablution block with hot showers and toilets. Please note that there is no electricity at Kubunyana and that you should bring your own supply of drinking water. The turn-off to Kubunyana is indicated by a sign post on the right. From there it is another 4km to the campsite's entrance. The track is sandy in places and only negotiable with 4x4 vehicles.
